𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐋𝐄𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐓𝐎 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐑? Having been interested in the sciences from an early age, I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to do. As a freshman in college, I had my mind set on becoming a doctor. That quickly changed as I took an interest i
n computer science. As I progressed through college, my career goals shifted a few times. After graduating college, I began teaching at a middle school, but knew that it was not going to be a permanent career for me. Have you ever heard the saying, those that don't do, teach. Well, I preferred to do rather than teach and therefore sought out opportunities where I could use my education to do the work. After beginning my coursework for my Masters at VSU, I was offered at position at NSWCDD and I've been enjoying my career since.
𝐀𝐃𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐌𝐈𝐃𝐃𝐋𝐄 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐋 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒: Do not be closed minded in career choices. We so often are engrained to believe we have to choose a common career path (ex. doctor, lawyer, teacher, etc.), however the opportunities within the various major fields are exponential. Don't get caught up in the mindset that great opportunities are outside of the small areas. Great things are happening right in your backyards, but aren't always getting the big publicity. Take the time to do your research. Sometimes you can find your niche closer than you'd believe.
