The Importance of Summer Programs (As a High-School Student)

Oftentimes, when we hear the term “summer programs” we think of the typical summer camp, by the lake with log cabins and lots of bug spray! But today, while those summer programs are valuable and still exist, there are also more contemporary options that offer those same social-skills building experiences.
Each year, colleges, universities and other educational institutions and organizations host summer programs to expose middle and high school students to social and educational opportunities. These programs are usually specific to different career fields, majors, diverse groups of students, and/or different school levels. For example, if you or your student are interested in the STEM field, there are various summer programs for junior and senior high school students to attend.
These programs are essential to exploring different careers and college majors, immersing students in college living and learning, increasing social and teamwork skills, and more.
